Combat sambo: rules, training and how it differs from sport sambo

How combat sambo differs from sport sambo, how it combines striking and grappling, and why the ruleset and coach qualifications are decisive.

01

Sport sambo and combat sambo are different disciplines

Sport sambo focuses on throws, holds and permitted joint locks without strikes. Combat sambo adds striking and a different set of protective requirements. Exact permissions depend on the current rules, age and category.

02

Why a wrestling foundation remains central

Even when strikes are permitted, an athlete needs distance, balance, entries, throws, control and the ability to work safely on the ground. BORETS explores this interaction in its professional program and BORETS LAB.

03

Do not copy a professional match in a children’s class

Videos of adult athletes show professional training, not a children’s program. Children’s classes follow different contact rules, permitted techniques and educational goals.

04

How to assess a program

Ask about the ruleset, coach experience, protective equipment, partner matching, the stop protocol and competition preparation. The discipline’s name is not a substitute for these answers.

05

Where to see technical examples

BORETS LAB publishes matches between athletes from different styles, with direct YouTube links. The material is an observation of styles, not a universal training manual.
